Painting Exercises

I recently began recreating photo-portraits in order to practice digital color mixing and composition. The Saudi man and the girl with glasses were both taken from photographs, however I recently painted the pilot using no photo reference to stretch my abilities. I must admit he took longer than the previous two. Expect to see more of these exercises in the near future.

Story Development

During senior studio I started the development of a short sci-fi story. The story revolves around the impact of global devastation set in the future and the resourcefulness of mankind to survive by colonizing a Titan class moon. A major twist to the story is that the moon is not only teeming with life, but many of the species on the planet are native to Earth! This leaves many of the colonists in a state of awe and uncertainty. Scientists, theologians and politicians are left to debate whether all life develops along a similar DNA trend or if these specimens were relocated to the planet by another group of beings entirely. Little do they know what's in store for them in the near future.

The first image is a late-story concept of the alien harvesters that collect planetary resources on a massive scale.

Nicknamed Guppies, Image 2 is of a Zone Trooper employed by the Global Unity Project (GUP) to help maintain order and act as disaster response teams.

Image 3 is a proportion study of the Relocation Center stationed in orbit around the planet March as well as the single-use interplanetary transport vehicles that ferry colonists from Earth to the new planet.

Armored Fisher

This creature, native to wetlands and salt-water marshes, gets its name from its tough exo-skeleton and its unusual hunting methods. The Armored Fisher uses whip-like antennae to lure fish and other small animals to shallow waters then lunges on them with its pincers to capture its prey.

This creature was originally for a Sequential Arts class that explored Animal Anatomy for Creature Development. While my Armored Fisher amounts to a "land lobster" of sorts, the experience got me interested in clay modeling. Needless to say I fell in love with armature building too:

I recently completed a 12 inch mech using Roma brand soft modeling clay. My goal for this sculpt was to start a series of mech figures with different expressions or actions.

Fabrication materials included:
35" aluminum armature wire (heavy gauge)
15" aluminum armature wire (thin gauge)
1/4th tube of quick set plumbing epoxy (Propoxy brand)
2 1/4th inch rare earth magnets
2 bricks of Roma soft clay
2 razor blades, dental tools, blow-dryer
wooden base & drill
1 clay extruder
